JEFF HEALEY
25 March 1966 - 2 March 2008

Jeff Healey, the blind Canadian jazz, blues and rock guitarist and singer, passed away on 2 March this year.

He was born in Toronto, and lost his sight to a rare form of cancer when he was just 8 months old. When he was 3 he started playing guitar, teaching himself and adopting his trade-mark style of playing with the instrument flat on his lap.

Jeff formed his first band when he was 17. Three years later he was signed to Arista Records and released the album See The Light including the hit single Angel Eyes. Over the next twelve years he released several more albums and worked with various well-known artists, but thereafter he mainly devoted himself to jazz music, although he recorded a new rock album for release in 2008.

Papa Dave Hewitt was a big admirer of Jeff Healey's work and he hosts an appreciation of his life and music:
